DIMAPUR, JUN 4 (NPN): NSCN/GPRN (Khango-Vusshe) has expressed deep concern over the continuing violence and communal tensions arising from the conflict between the Kuki and Southern Naga communities in Manipur.
In a press note, the group said reports of killings, abductions, forced displacement and attacks on essential services were deeply disturbing. It strongly condemned the targeting of innocent civilians, stating that such acts had destroyed homes and livelihoods, torn families apart and created fear, instability and hardship across the region. Emphasising that the lives, safety and dignity of non-combatants must be protected, NSCN/GPRN (Khango-Vusshe) demanded that those responsible for killings and abductions be promptly identified and held accountable through transparent and impartial investigations.
The group said immediate measures were needed to prevent further reprisals, communal polarisation and a cycle of retaliatory attacks that could prolong suffering and destabilise the region.
Calling for an immediate cessation of hostilities, it urged community leaders and relevant authorities to re-engage in direct and mediated dialogue to address grievances and restore normalcy. The group also appealed to the authorities to act impartially, ensure civilian protection and prevent vested interests from further inflaming the situation.
While acknowledging that the grievances underlying the conflict were complex and rooted in issues of identity and governance, NSCN/GPRN (Khango-Vusshe) maintained that the targeted killing and abduction of civilians could never be justified.
