Lt. Sukhavi Achumi memorial open Nagaland chess c’ship from July 9–11

DIMAPUR, JUN 6 (NPN): The family of late Sukhavi Achumi, in collaboration with the Sumi Chess Association Nagaland (SCAN), will organise the Lt. Sukhavi Achumi Memorial Open Nagaland Chess Championship 2026 from July 9 to 11 at Hotel Acacia, Dimapur.
According to the organisers, the championship is being sponsored by the family of late Sukhavi Achumi as a tribute to his memory and to promote the game of chess in Nagaland.
The tournament will feature a total prize pool of Rs. 1 lakh. The champion will receive a cash prize of Rs. 30,000, while the runner-up and third-place winner will be awarded Rs. 20,000 and Rs. 15,000 respectively. Consolation prizes will also be awarded up to the 10th position.
In addition, a special prize of Rs. 5,000 will be presented to the best player in the Above-60 category. Separate prizes will also be awarded to the best performers in the Under-14 and Under-10 categories.
The entry fee for the Open category has been fixed at Rs. 1,000, while participants in the Under-14 and below category will be required to pay Rs. 500. Registration fees may be submitted via GPay at 8131835926.
