Dimapur POCSO case:Police arrest third accused

DIMAPUR, JUN 7 (NPN): The Special Investigation Team (SIT), investigating the alleged sexual assault of a minor girl in Dimapur, apprehended a third accused on Sunday.
According to police sources, the accused, an elderly man, was taken into custody on Sunday and further investigation was underway. Sources said that more details regarding the accused or the nature of his alleged involvement would be made known later.
Police have so far arrested the prime accused, identified as Watimeren Jamir alias O. Wati, and the second accused, Tsuktimongba Ao. Both have been remanded to police custody for further interrogation.
It may be mentioned that the police have constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) headed by a senior officer to conduct the investigation.
Police had also appealed to the public and media to respect the privacy and dignity of the minor victim and refrain from sharing any information that could directly or indirectly reveal the child’s identity, including name, age, address, school, photographs or other identifying details. It cautioned that disclosure of a minor victim’s identity was a punishable offence under Section 72 of the BNS, Section 23 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and Section 74 of the Juvenile Justice Act.
Assuring that the investigation was progressing in accordance with due process, police said all efforts were being made to complete the probe and file the chargesheet at the earliest.
