DIMAPUR: The inaugural programme of Youth Khiang Yam (Youth Morung) was held at the IBAPWO Office, Medical Ward, Pungro Town on June 4 marking an important step towards youth empowerment and community development.
Special guest, EAC Pungro urged the youths to remain positive, explore opportunities, and make the best use of their youth. He congratulated the organisers for initiating such a meaningful programme.
Delivering the welcome address, Director of International Border Area Peoples Welfare Organisation (IBAPWO), N. Apong, described Youth Khiang Yam as a dedicated space for youths and students to express themselves, learn, and explore their potential. He informed that books for academic and other purposes have been made available and encouraged students to make full use of the facility.
Assistant Commandant of 30 Assam Rifles, Pungro, also addressed the gathering, sharing his regular interactions with local youths and guidance on examinations and career opportunities. He encouraged them to be open, interactive, and willing to learn to move forward successfully.
Founder of Akedha Amulung, Longtili C. Sangtam, expressed happiness at being part of the initiative, reminding youths that they are future leaders of society. He encouraged them to discover their strengths and interests, pursue their calling confidently and make use of available resources, noting that growth comes through continuous effort.
The programme, chaired by coordinator of IBAPWO, Sara Khongsai, began with an invocation by pastor of the United Pentecostal Church, Chipong followed by an opening hymn led by choir director of Pungro Town Baptist Church Lomala.
The programme featured a special number by Tanrikhum and concluded with a benediction by Pastor Tsuyigba of Pungro Town Baptist Church.
