IMPHAL, JUN 7: Newly appointed Manipur Director General of Police (DGP) Mukesh Singh on Sunday visited Senapati and Kangpokpi districts, where he held meetings with security forces, district officials and leaders of Naga and Kuki civil society organisations to assess the prevailing law and order situation.
Mukesh Singh, who assumed charge as the state police chief on June 1, was accompanied by additional DGP (Law & Order) Lhari Dorjee Lhatoo during his first official visit outside Imphal, police said in a statement. During the visit, the DGP interacted with senior police officers and reviewed the overall law and order situation, security arrangements, operational preparedness and key achievements of the district police forces.
He also held meetings with the district administration, commanders of the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs), and representatives of various Kuki and Naga civil society organisations. Among the Kuki organisations were Committee on Tribal Unity (COTU), Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM), Kuki Inpi Sadar Hills, Kuki Women Union (KWU), Kuki Students’ Organisation (KSO) Sadar Hills, Thadou Inpi Sadar Hills, Thadou Youth Association (TYA) and Thadou Women’s Association (TWA).
Naga organisations represented included the United Naga Council, Naga Women Union, All Naga Students’ Association Manipur (ANSAM), Naga Peoples’ Organisation (NPO), Senapati District Students’ Association (SDSA) and Senapati District Women’s Association (SDWA). During the interactions, the DGP emphasised that the law applies equally to all and reaffirmed that the police would continue to serve the people impartially, without fear or favour.
He appealed to the public to cooperate with the police in maintaining law and order and ensuring a safe and secure environment for all.
According to police, the visit was cordial and productive and helped strengthen cooperation among the police, security forces, civil administration and civil society organisations towards ensuring peace, security and development in the two districts and the state.
