IMPHAL, JUN 8: A 57-year-old Rongmei Naga man was killed in a fresh incident of gun violence in Manipur’s Kangpokpi district on Monday, prompting condemnation from several civil society and student organisations.
The deceased, identified as Chunjanglung Panmei of Pongringlong Part-I village, was reportedly a member of the village guard. Police recovered his bullet-riddled body later in the day and sent it to the RIMS morgue for post-mortem examination. According to reports, Panmei had gone missing after a group of villagers came under fire from unidentified armed miscreants while heading to repair a water supply line allegedly damaged by unknown persons.
The villagers fled into a nearby forest, and Panmei’s body was recovered later in the afternoon.
The Coordination Committee Longmai Area (CCLA) and the Pongringlong Youth Club (PYC), in separate statements, alleged that armed Kuki militants were behind the attack
