SKK warns absentee govt employees

DIMAPUR, JUN 10 (NPN): All Sümi Students’ Union (SKK) has issued a fresh warning to government officials and employees against absenteeism, directing its constituent units to intensify inspections and submit reports on those found absent from their places of posting without valid justification.
In a press release, SKK president Hipito Achumi and general secretary P. Samuel Chophy expressed concern over the continued absence of certain government officials/employees despite repeated warnings, directives and inspection orders issued earlier.
Recalling its March 5, 2026 directive, SKK said it had instructed all government employees to remain at their designated stations and discharge duties responsibly. However, SKK said recent reports indicated that some officials continued to neglect their responsibilities, causing inconvenience to the public and disrupting the delivery of essential services.
Describing the trend as a gross dereliction of duty and a betrayal of public trust, SKK asserted that government service was a responsibility entrusted for the welfare of the people and not a privilege for personal convenience. The union has cautioned that continued absenteeism and disregard for official duties would not be tolerated and directed all responsible officials and employees to immediately report to and remain at their respective places of posting.
Further, SKK warned that failure to comply would invite strict scrutiny, public exposure and the forwarding of documented reports to the competent authorities for disciplinary action. SKK further directed all its constituent units to strengthen monitoring and inspection activities and submit detailed reports on officials found absent without valid reasons.
SKK said it would continue to take necessary measures to ensure that government offices function effectively and responsibly.
