Ambulance drives trained on road safety, first aid

DIMAPUR: Recognising the crucial role ambulance driver’s in saving lives and ensuring timely medical care, orientation training on road safety and first aid, was conducted for ambulance drivers on June 9 at the Conference Hall of District Hospital, Mon.
The first session on road safety was led by Latwang Konyak, ASI, SP Office Mon, who engaged participants through interactive discussions on traffic rules and regulations. Using practical examples and real life scenarios, he stressed the importance of adhering to traffic guidelines and how responsible driving contributes to both road safety and efficient patient transport during emergencies.
Speaking on the responsibilities of ambulance drivers, Khoatun Konyak, ARSEI, District Transport Office Mon, appreciated their dedication and noted that drivers often witness both moments of hope and distress alongside patients and families.
He outlined key responsibilities such as maintaining vehicles in good condition, ensuring cleanliness after each transfer, planning safe routes, assisting with patient care when required, and ensuring availability of medical equipment and supplies.
The practical session, conducted by Dr. Nyamnyei, included demonstrations on the use of oxygen cylinders, selection of masks, administration of oxygen, use of cannulas and saline, CPR, safe removal of nasogastric tubes, and essential patient care practices during transport.
The programme was chaired by Dr. Nyamnyei, Medical Officer, District Hospital Mon, and attended by resource persons including Khongwang, ASI, SP Office Mon, Ponwan W, UBC, SP Office Mon, along with all ambulance drivers serving under the establishments of the Chief Medical Officer and Medical Superintendent, Mon.
