More organizations condemn killing of 6 Naga men in Manipur

DIMAPUR, JUN 11 (NPN): Condemnations continue to pour in over the killing of six Naga men, with organisations expressing shock and grief over the incident, demanding justice for the victims and accountability for those responsible.
Patton: Deputy chief minister Y. Patton has expressed deep sorrow and strongly condemned the killing of six innocent Nagas in Manipur. Patton stated that the Naga people had chosen a path of restraint and peace under highly volatile circumstances and said the loss of six lives has caused great distress to the entire community. He urged the Central government and the Manipur government to initiate an immediate and impartial investigation to identify, apprehend and prosecute those responsible under the full force of the law.
Patton also called upon the authorities to take strict measures to secure all communities and restore public trust in the rule of law. He appealed to citizens, particularly the Naga public across Nagaland and the wider northeastern region, to maintain calmness and unity during this difficult period and reject paths of hatred and violence.
Expressing condolences to the bereaved families, Patton prayed that the souls of the deceased rest in peace.
NCCI: National Council of Churches in India (NCCI) has expressed deep shock and grief over the killing of six Nagas, including two pastors, who were abducted on May 13 from Leilon Vaiphei, Kangpokpi.
In a statement, NCCI general secretary Rev. Dr. Asir Ebenezer said the recovery of the bodies on June 10, allegedly in a mutilated and brutal condition, was deeply distressing and strongly condemned. NCCI stated that despite numerous appeals by church bodies, organisations and concerned individuals for their safe release, the tragic act had brought immense pain and grief to the bereaved families, the Christian community and peace-loving people across the country.
Condemning the incident, NCCI said it constituted a grave violation of human rights, human dignity, justice and peace. It said such a crime had no place in any civilised society, particularly in a predominantly Christian region where the values of compassion, respect for life and reconciliation were urgently needed. NCCI reaffirmed the sanctity of human life and called upon all people to uphold and respect the dignity and rights of every person. NCCI urged the government and the concerned security and law enforcement authorities to conduct a thorough and swift investigation and ensure that those responsible were identified and brought to justice at the earliest in accordance with the law.
The council also appealed to stakeholders, community leaders, civil society organisations and churches to exercise restraint and work towards peace, mutual respect, forgiveness and reconciliation. NCCI extended its heartfelt condolences and prayers to the bereaved families, the victims’ church congregations and all affected communities. It said it stood in solidarity with them and prayed for God’s strength, hope, justice and healing. The council reiterated its commitment to promoting peace, justice and harmonious relationships among communities.
NSF: Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) has expressed outrage over the abduction, torture, murder and desecration of six Naga men from Konsakhul Naga Village, whose bodies were recovered on June 10 after they were allegedly abducted from Leilon Vaiphei Village on May 13 by Kuki militants, village volunteers and leaders.
In a statement, NSF president Mteisuding and general secretary Kenilo Kent said the victims were allegedly subjected to prolonged torture before being killed and their bodies mutilated and dismembered. It stated that the brutality inflicted upon the victims was beyond human comprehension and struck at the core of shared humanity, human dignity and cultural values.
NSF said the torture and desecration of the victims’ bodies indicated a deliberate intent to humiliate, terrorise and dehumanise the entire Naga community. It maintained that the acts could not be justified under any circumstance or excused in the name of ethnic, political or territorial conflict.
The federation viewed the incident as a dangerous normalisation of violence and impunity in Manipur and said the abduction, disappearance, torture, execution and mutilation of civilians exposed the absence of accountability and failure of authorities to deliver justice.
NSF held Kuki militants under Suspension of Operations (SoO) with the Government of India accountable for the crime and also blamed both the Manipur and Central governments for their inability to safeguard citizens and uphold the rule of law. It said innocent civilians continued to be abducted, tortured and murdered despite repeated assurances, extensive security operations and deployment of thousands of Central security forces.
The federation questioned how such a gruesome crime could occur in a state saturated with security forces and expressed concern over the absence of convictions despite years of violence, killings, disappearances and human rights violations. It also raised concern over the alleged partisan conduct and selective intervention of certain security agencies.
NSF extended condolences to the bereaved families and the people of Konsakhul Naga Village and expressed solidarity with them.
The federation demanded that the Government of India and the Government of Manipur explain the circumstances that allowed such an atrocity to occur and called for an immediate, time-bound investigation, with all those involved identified, apprehended, prosecuted and punished according to law.
Further, NSF demanded immediate abrogation of the SoO regime, alleging that atrocities and human rights violations had been committed with impunity by armed narco-Kuki militants.
The federation reiterated that peace could not prevail until truth was acknowledged, perpetrators were held accountable and justice delivered. It said the incident was a painful reminder that justice remained elusive for many innocent victims of the conflict and affirmed that it would not remain silent until justice was delivered.
