Patton assures swift probe into crimes against women and minors

DIMAPUR, JUN 11 (NPN): State deputy chief minister Y Patton on Thursday assured strict and swift action on rising cases of crime against women in Nagaland, particularly offences involving minors.
Speaking to reporters at Dimapur Airport, Patton described the incidents as “very unfortunate” and said the state government has taken serious note of the situation. He informed that strict instructions have been issued to the police to expedite investigations.
“We have set up a special investigation team (SIT) headed by a deputy commissioner of police. I have directed them to complete the investigation at the earliest,” Patton stated.
On signing of the memorandum of understanding for oil exploration between Nagaland and Assam, Patton said a state delegation had held discussions with the union petroleum minister. He said that the process of awarding exploration contracts would be done through open bidding.
Regarding the alleged open sale of alcohol during an exhibition football match, Patton said the matter has been taken up with the authorities for a thorough investigation.
On FNTA, Patton but said Eastern Nagaland People’s Organization representatives would be heading to Delhi to meet the union home minister.
