
DIMAPUR: The monthly District Planning and Development Board (DPDB) meeting of Wokha was held at the DC’s Conference Hall on June 10 under the chairmanship of newly appointed DPDB chairman and advisor for Agriculture, Mhathung Yanthan. Mhonbemo Humtsoe, MLA and Deputy Commissioner and DPDB vice chairman, K. Mhathung Tsanglao, also attended.
The meeting reviewed key issues discussed in the previous session, including the proposed site for a District Hospital, rejuvenation of the Etsutchukha water pond, landslide concerns in Doyang, and the shortage of Nagaland State Transport (NST) bus services in the district. Proposals for establishing health sub-centres at Pyangsa and Aree New villages were also discussed. chief medical officer Dr. Thungchanbemo Ezung highlighted the difficulties faced by residents in accessing basic healthcare services, while Yanthan stressed the need for improved medical facilities in the area.
EAC Wokha, Sangmou Khiamniungan, presented an overview of the district administration, while assistant commissioner of taxes, M. Chibeni Lotha, briefed the board on departmental activities and tax revenue targets. Wokha Town Council member Habenthung Ezung highlighted ongoing initiatives on solid waste management, traffic regulation and urban development. Yanthan also lauded the Lotha Youth Hoho’s anti-drug campaign and informed that DPDB members would visit de-addiction centres during the next meeting.
DPDB Wokha visits DIET, Bailey Baptist College
As part of an institutional visit, DPDB Wokha chairman and advisor for Agriculture, Mhathung Yanthan, Mhonbemo Humtsoe, MLA deputy commissioner and DPDB vice chairman K. Mhathung Tsanglao, along with DPDB members, visited the District Institute of Education and Training (DIET) and Bailey Baptist College in Wokha.
At DIET Wokha, principal Mhonbeni Kikon briefed the delegation on the institute’s activities and highlighted challenges, including poor road connectivity and the need for infrastructure expansion. Yanthan assured support from the government and advised the institute to monitor the progress of its trainees.
At Bailey Baptist College, principal Benthungo Ngullie highlighted issues such as low student enrolment, poor road access and inadequate sports infrastructure. Established in 1996 by Wokha Town Baptist Church, the college continues to face several operational challenges.
Expressing concern over the situation, Mhonbemo Humtsoe pledged to sponsor six students this year. Yanthan also announced support for setting up a library and a table tennis facility, while assuring continued assistance for the institution.
Bhandari SDPDB felicitates Achumbemo
on advisor appointment
Bhandari Sub-Divisional Planning and Development Board (SDPDB) held its monthly meeting on June 10 at Bhandari, where members felicitated and congratulated SDPDB chairman, Achumbemo Kikon, MLA on his appointment as advisor to the Chief Minister and SCERT & Food Processing, Nagaland. According to a DIPR report, Kikon highlighted progress on the Nagaland Foothill Road following recent inspections. He expressed satisfaction with the completed stretches and stressed the need for timely completion of the remaining work while maintaining quality and prescribed specifications.
Additional deputy commissioner and SDPDB vice chairman, Longasen Lotha, lauded Kikon’s achievement, describing it as recognition of his dedication and commitment to representing the people.
JE Power, Er. Mhaden Murry, informed the board that the department has been conducting awareness programmes on smart meter installation and educating consumers on its benefits. He also pointed out the need for additional manpower to ensure uninterrupted power supply. Veterinary assistant surgeon, Dr. Kikali G. Sumi, reported that house-to-house surveillance and testing for African Swine Fever (ASF) are being conducted across the sub-division. She stated that no ASF cases have been detected or reported so far. She also briefed the board on the National Livestock Mission and Livestock Insurance Scheme.
While SDO (Civil) Ralan, Tsenthungo E. Ngullie stated that a police outpost is required at Tchujanphen Village, Ralan area, SDPO Bhandari, R. Philips Yanthan stated that Bhandari Police is also in need of a permanent Police Station at Champang which covers around 18 villages and is situated at the State. Border area. The house deliberated on performance of the government schools under SDEO Bhandari, with special reference to the class 10 and class 12 results of the year 2026. The house also resolved that starting from the present academic year, district administration, Bhandari, will pay monitoring visits to government schools at Bhandari to keep in check the teaching and students progress to yield better results.
