NIULAND, JUN 11 (NPN): A three-day self-defence training programme concluded at the Multi-Disciplinary Sports Stadium, Niuland on Wednesday. The initiative was organised by the District Administration and the District Hub for Empowerment of Women (DHEW) Niuland under the banner of Beti Bachao Beti Padhao, in collaboration with the Niuland District Pencak Silat Association.
According to a DIPR report, the training held from June 8 to 10, was conducted by an elite team from the Nagaland Pencak Silat Association, comprising official Guinness World Record holders from the state. The team was led by general secretary and head coach, Deep Kumar, along with vice-president, H. Vikishe Chophy. The instructors included decorated athletes such as national gold medalist, Kevin; international silver medalist and national gold medalist, Kitenlo K. Thono; and national gold medalist, Liike Kibami.
The programme aimed to equip young girls and women with practical self-defence skills through Pencak Silat, while fostering confidence and safety awareness. The event was chaired by S. Boloka Jimo, SFL (DHEW), and graced by Deputy Commissioner T.L. Kiusumong Tikhir and EAC Niuland, Neisiezo Theunuo.
Addressing the gathering, the Deputy Commissioner commended the Niuland District Pencak Silat Association and the trainers for bringing world-class expertise to the district. He urged participants to become ambassadors of safety and empowerment in their communities.
Certificates were awarded to all participants who successfully completed the training. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Neisiezo Theunuo, who expressed gratitude to the Deputy Commissioner, the associations, DHEW staff and the participants for making the event a success.
