NEW DELHI, JUN 11 (PTI): Cautioning against sensationalism in an attention-driven media environment, Vice President C P Radhakrishnan on Thursday told aspiring journalists that journalism’s true currency is credibility and not popularity.
Addressing students of the Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC) here, the vice president said that a media house or a journalist’s reputation must firmly rest on factual accuracy and public interest rather than the pursuit of viral metrics.
He outlined a vision for the modern Indian press and noted that the country fundamentally requires media professionals who possess a distinct blend of core values of intellectual honesty.
Radhakrishnan called upon the students to contribute to the vision of Viksit Bharat by 2047 and to project India’s development journey with integrity and objectivity.
He said the international community today regards India with renewed interest owing to its demographic dividend, technological innovation and democratic resilience.
