DIMAPUR: Kuda Village Council (KVC) has announced the collection of one time waste management fees following extensive deliberations on disposal challenges after DMC imposed a blanket ban on dumping waste outside its jurisdiction. In a press release, KVC chairman Savi Liegise and secretary Aviu Nagi said the ban had severely affected Kuda Village, prompting the community to independently purchase a new dumping site located about 25 km away through community funding, without government assistance. Development works are underway to make the site operational.
KVC noted that several parts of Dimapur have witnessed increasing accumulation of garbage, stressing its commitment to maintaining cleanliness and hygiene through active community participation. To operationalise the new site, the council approved collection of one time fees from registered households, establishments and settlers for 2026 and 2027.
Funds will be utilised for construction of approach roads, perimeter fencing, transportation facilities, clearing of manoeuvring space for dumper trucks, electricity connectivity, caretaker quarters and water supply arrangements.
The fee structure, to be implemented by the Kuda Waste Management Committee, includes: Rs. 2,000 per household, Rs. 4,000 for schools and nurseries (slabs for large and small institutions), Rs. 3,000 for churches, and Rs. 500 per kitchen for floating population and rental category. Fees for daily, monthly and petty waste disposal groups will be determined by the committee.
