


DIMAPUR: Joining the rest of the world, Nagaland observed the International Day of Yoga on June 21 with programmes organised by institutions, organisations and educational centres across the state under the theme “Yoga for Healthy Ageing.”
At Brahma Kumaris Rajyoga Meditation Centre, Kohima, the International Day of Yoga was observed alongside the Nasha Mukta Signature Campaign. Special yoga and meditation sessions were conducted at National Highways & Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL), Kohima Head Post Office and 13 Assam Rifles, benefiting around 600–700 participants. Addressing the gatherings, Rajyogini BK Rupa Behen, director of Brahma Kumaris Kohima Centre, explained that yoga is not merely a physical exercise but a holistic way of life that strengthens both body and mind. She emphasised that challenges such as rising suicide cases, drug addiction, moral decline, stress and pressures on youth can be effectively addressed through yoga and meditation. She highlighted the benefits of Rajyoga Meditation in developing concentration, self awareness and positive thinking, while also explaining the scientific advantages of pranayama and conscious breathing techniques. Participants expressed their commitment to incorporate yoga into their daily lives for better health and inner peace.
CIH: At Central Institute of Horticulture (CIH), Medziphema, staff and labourers of the institute enthusiastically participated in the observance. Organised in response to the call of the Ministry of Ayush, Government of India, the programme aimed to promote yoga as a means of maintaining physical fitness, mental well being and overall quality of life. CIH director Dr. R. L. Raut, in his address, highlighted the relevance of yoga in modern life and encouraged employees to adopt it as a regular practice. He stressed that yoga is a valuable tool for preventive healthcare and improving well being across all age groups.
JITO: JITO Dimapur Ladies Wing also celebrated the day with chanting of the Namokar Mantra followed by yoga sessions. Co convener Babita Chhabra highlighted the significance of yoga in maintaining physical and mental health, while yoga instructor Rinku Jhanjhari Jain conducted various asanas and pranayama exercises, explaining their benefits in detail.
Jt. CCA: Office of the Joint Controller of Communication Accounts (Jt. CCA) observed International Day of Yoga at its premises with active participation from staff members. The programme included yoga asanas and breathing exercises aimed at promoting physical and mental well being and encouraging a healthy lifestyle among employees.
SJU: St. Joseph University (SJU), Dimapur, through its Department of Physical Education, organised a yoga session on June 20. The programme was led by Dilip Bhagat, state president of Patanjali Yog Samiti (PYS) and Bharat Swabhiman Trust (BST), along with district president Sajal Roy. The instructors guided participants through yoga asanas, breathing techniques and relaxation exercises, while explaining their health benefits. Students, faculty and staff actively participated and gained valuable insights into the practice of yoga.
