DIMAPUR: Churches across Kohima joined the rest of the world in celebrating Father’s Day on June 20–21 with prayers, worship services and cultural programmes honouring fathers for their role in families and society.
At Chakhesang Baptist Church Kohima (CBCK), the celebration was held under the theme “Father’s Greatest Gift.” Speaking on the occasion, Rev. Dr. Chekroveyi Cho‑o, executive secretary of Chakhesang Baptist Church Council (CBCC), challenged fathers to lay a godly foundation for their children through example and intentional instruction. “Your investment today will be your gift tomorrow,” he said, urging fathers to take right decisions for healthy families amidst secularism and materialism.
He stressed the need to inculcate godly character in children to raise responsible citizens. Later, Rev. Khrotso Mero spoke on “Watchman of the Home” during the evening service. The programme was marked by special numbers, prayers for fathers and presentation of gifts.
At St. Francis de Sales (SFS) Parish, Kohima Town, parishioners celebrated Father’s Day with thanksgiving during Sunday Eucharistic celebrations. During the Angami Mass, Visazhünuo Carmila reminded families to spend quality time together despite modern distractions. She emphasised that a man’s value lies not in fame or achievement but in raising responsible citizens. Referring to rising crimes against women, she underscored the importance of good parenting and equal treatment of daughters.
Parish priest Rev. Fr. Mathew Mhabemo extended greetings and urged fathers to reflect on their shortcomings and seek renewal in Christ. He called on families to offer fathers gifts of forgiveness, respect and cooperation. Prayers were also offered for single fathers, single mothers, children without fathers and those who have lost their fathers.
Assistant priest Rev. Fr. Peter, in his sermon based on “Do not be afraid,” encouraged fathers to face challenges with faith and perseverance.
Meanwhile, Holy Cross Chapel Poumai Nagas observed Father’s Day with praise and worship led by Yupio and Veihrii John. The programme included prayers, speeches and Holy Eucharist celebrated by Rev. Fr. C. Joseph, counsellor of St. Joseph’s College, Jakhama.
Contributions by catechists, youth and women’s associations enriched the liturgy. Special songs and gifts arranged by the women’s association expressed appreciation for fathers. The celebration concluded with a fellowship meal.
