Heavy rainfall triggers landslides in Wokha

Correspondent

WOKHA, JUN 26 (NPN): Heavy rainfall on the night of June 25 and early hours of June 26 triggered landslides at different locations across Wokha district, raising concerns over the possibility of more incidents if the wet weather continues. Minor landslides were also reported from various parts of the district.
One landslide occurred along the National Highway near the Upper NST area, close to a petrol pump. Soil and debris slid down the hillside, though the road remained open and vehicular movement was not affected. However, the unstable slope has raised concern among commuters, as continued rainfall could trigger further slides in the coming days.
Another incident was reported along the Etsuchukha Road at Tsumang B, where a large portion of the hillside gave way due to incessant rain. Debris spilled onto the roadside but did not block traffic, allowing vehicles to pass without interruption. No casualties or damage to nearby houses were reported.
With the monsoon intensifying, residents have expressed concern over the increasing risk of landslides in vulnerable areas of the district and urged the authorities to monitor unstable slopes and take preventive measures to minimise further damage.
