Modern College, Piphema, organised its annual Freshers’ Day on June 26 at the College Indoor Stadium, extending an official welcome to the new batch of students through a day of cultural programmes, motivational talks and competitions.
The event’s special guest, Paweü Kayina, founder of Moneybar, Building Northeast India’s Finance Community, encouraged students to embrace learning, overcome their fears and continuously develop new skills. She urged the freshers to remain teachable regardless of age or background and stressed the importance of financial literacy. Advising students to manage their finances wisely, she encouraged them to distinguish between needs and wants and cultivate the habit of saving.
A major highlight of the programme was the Mr & Ms Fresher 2026 contest, held in two rounds. During the introduction round, contestants introduced themselves while showcasing their traditional attire. The final round assessed their confidence, communication skills and presence of mind.
Following the judges’ evaluation, Diethozo Mezhü and Sepong Sonla were crowned Mr and Ms Fresher 2026, respectively. Ghokivi K. Achumi and Seketuno Dahou won the titles of Mr and Ms Multimedia, while Keneinguzo Keyho and Avino Khesoh were adjudged Mr and Ms Personality.
Earlier, the programme began with an invocation by MCEU president Seyievino Meyase, followed by a welcome address delivered by Lhingmoichong Singson of B.A. 3rd Semester. Grace Gonmei and Mathibo Lawrence compered the event, while B.A. 3rd Semester students presented a welcome song. The programme also featured a speech on behalf of the freshers by Vimesano Vielie and a special performance by Lamgousang of B.A. 5th Semester.
The celebration was attended by special invitees from the Piphema Students’ Union. The formal programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Vileto Kuotsu of B.A. 5th Semester, followed by the benediction by MCEU vice-president Vedulü Lohe.
An informal session held in the afternoon featured artist, singer and musician Shau Evans as the guest performer, bringing the day’s celebrations to a close.
