Govt committed to farmer centric transformation: Salhoutuonuo

DIMAPUR: Minister for Water Resources and Horticulture, Salhoutuonuo Kruse on Monday, reaffirmed the State Government’s commitment to accelerate agricultural transformation through farmer centric policies, improved infrastructure, climate smart technologies and stronger value chains. She said the vision of Viksit Bharat@2047 could only be achieved through collective efforts and active participation of all stakeholders.
Salhoutuonuo was speaking at a stakeholder meet held at ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Nagaland Centre, Jharnapani, to prepare a strategic action plan for achieving the vision. The event was attended by policymakers, scientists, academicians and senior government officials.
Welcoming participants, Dr. H. Kalita, Head of Regional Centre, stressed that collective planning and institutional collaboration were essential for transforming Nagaland’s agriculture into a resilient, income generating sector. He highlighted the pivotal role of agriculture and allied sectors in ensuring food security, improving livelihoods and driving economic growth.
In his opening remarks, Dr. G. Kadirvel, director, ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Umiam, emphasised science led, evidence based planning and convergence among research institutions, government departments and development agencies. He noted that innovation, climate smart agriculture and technology adoption would be key to realising the vision of Viksit Bharat.
Delivering the keynote address, Dr. B. P. Bhatt, Vice Chancellor, VCSG Uttarakhand University of Horticulture and Forestry, underscored the need to integrate indigenous crops and medicinal plants while making agriculture more profitable and sustainable. He also stressed stronger linkages between scientists and farmers.
An in house brainstorming session chaired by Dr. Kadirvel focused on preparing a practical action plan for Nagaland, identifying priorities such as enhancing productivity, conserving natural resources, strengthening research extension linkages, encouraging agri entrepreneurship and expanding adoption of modern technologies.
In his concluding remarks, Dr. Zasekuolie Chusi, Agriculture Production Commissioner, called for greater coordination among government departments, research institutions and development agencies to translate the action plan into measurable outcomes that improve farmers’ income, strengthen food security and promote sustainable growth.
The programme witnessed participation of Directors, Joint Directors, senior officials, Heads of State Agricultural Universities and Krishi Vigyan Kendras, scientists, Chief Technical Officers, Subject Matter Specialists, Assistant Professors, Technical Officers and staff from various institutions. The meeting concluded with a shared resolve to develop an actionable, science driven roadmap that empowers farmers, strengthens agriculture and positions Nagaland firmly on the path towards Viksit Bharat@2047.
