DIMAPUR: As part of preparations for leprosy eradication by 2027, State Leprosy Officer Dr. Ruokuohielie Rutsa, along with his team from the directorate of Health & Family Welfare, Kohima, held a review meeting with National Leprosy Eradication Programme (NLEP) staff at the CMO Conference Hall, Phek, on June 29.
Dr. Rutsa encouraged staff to intensify awareness on leprosy, stressing that the disease is curable through early diagnosis and timely treatment. He urged them to ensure access to free treatment and work towards preventing its spread.
Officials highlighted the year long SPARSH Leprosy Awareness Campaign and emphasised active community screening for early case detection. Staff were advised to spread awareness through VHNDs, important events, and village councils, as well as among MOs, CHOs, nurses and ASHAs.
During the meeting, PMW Vizakielie Theunuo briefed participants on the newly introduced monthly reporting format and SPARSH campaign, directing timely submission of reports. DEO NLEP Thejasetuo Paphino presented the NIKUSTH digital registry, which supports patient tracking, contact tracing and treatment monitoring.
Earlier, the meeting was chaired by PMW NLEP Vezoto Nienu, with the welcome address delivered by Dr. Khriekuolie Liezietsu, DPO RMNCHA & N, and vote of thanks by Sr. PMS NLEP, Dihutho.
