TaFMA signs partnership with RWCMD to boost music education

The Task Force for Music & Arts (TaFMA), Government of Nagaland, has entered into a partnership with the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama (RWCMD), marking a significant step towards strengthening collaboration in music education, artistic development and cultural exchange.
The partnership was formalised during the official visit of Brian Weir, Dean of Students at the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama, who was in Nagaland from June 17 to 21 to explore avenues for long-term cooperation between the two institutions and their wider creative communities.
During his visit, Weir interacted with members of Nagaland’s music fraternity and toured several prominent institutions, including the TaFMA headquarters, Music Academy Kohima, Nagaland College of Music and Fine Arts, Margaret Shishak School of Music and Tetso College. The meetings and visits served as a platform for discussions on fostering stronger ties among music institutions, artists, educators and cultural stakeholders.
As part of his itinerary, Weir also visited the Sunshine Orchestra Nagaland Chapter at the Kohima Orphanage and Destitute Home (KODH), where he observed how music education and community engagement are helping nurture young talent while creating meaningful opportunities through the arts.
The visiting dean also took part in the World Music Day celebrations, witnessing the rich musical diversity and cultural expressions showcased by artists from across Nagaland. The event reflected the state’s expanding creative landscape and its growing commitment to promoting music and the arts on national as well as international platforms.
According to TaFMA, the partnership represents an important milestone in building sustained collaboration between the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama and Nagaland’s music and cultural institutions. The initiative is expected to create new opportunities for academic exchange, artistic innovation, capacity building and international partnerships, further strengthening global connections for the state’s creative community.
