Eastern Army chief reviews security with Gov, CM

KOHIMA, JUL 2 (AGENCIES): General Officer Commanding-in-Chief (GOC-in-C), Eastern Command of the Indian Army, Lt Gen V.M. Bhuvana Krishnan, on Thursday met Nagaland governor Nand Kishore and chief minister Neiphiu Rio to review the security situation, border infrastructure and Army-civil coordination in the state.
During his meeting with the Governor, Lt Gen Krishnan discussed national security, development of border areas and coordination between the armed forces and the civil administration to maintain peace and stability.
The Governor lauded the Indian Army’s role in safeguarding the country’s frontiers and appreciated its humanitarian assistance and civic action programmes in remote areas of Nagaland.
Lt Gen Krishnan later paid a courtesy call on chief minister Neiphiu Rio at his official residence.
The two discussed the prevailing security scenario, infrastructure development in border areas and ongoing initiatives jointly undertaken by the Army and the state government to support local communities.
Rio congratulated Lt Gen Krishnan on assuming charge as the GOC-in-C of the Eastern Command and wished him a successful tenure.
Deputy chief ministers– TR Zeliang and Y Patton were also present.
Lt Gen Krishnan recently took over as the head of the Eastern Command and is on a tour of the North Eastern region to review areas under its jurisdiction.
The Eastern Command oversees the Army’s operations across the North East, including Nagaland.
According to IANS, Lt Gen Krishnan also held a key interaction with the chairman of Ceasefire Monitoring Group (CFMG) and discussed issues related to security and implementation of ceasefire mechanisms.
Defence spokesman Lt Col Mahendra Rawat said the deliberations highlighted the importance of sustained cooperation among various security agencies, enhanced coordination and collaborative efforts to ensure lasting peace, security and stability in the region.
The discussions also reaffirmed the shared commitment of all stakeholders towards maintaining an effective ceasefire framework and addressing emerging security challenges through close coordination and constructive engagement.
Lt Gen Krishnan also visited the Inspector General Assam Rifles (North) headquarters to assess the prevailing security scenario, operational readiness and ongoing operational initiatives in the region.
During the visit, the Army Commander was given a detailed briefing on the operational environment, the evolving security dynamics and the preparedness of the formation to effectively deal with emerging challenges, the spokesman said.
Further, in recognition of their exemplary devotion to duty and outstanding professional performance, the Eastern Army Commander presented Commendation Cards to deserving personnel.
