NNC flays killing of 6 hostages; elects vice president HQ

DIMAPUR: An emergency meeting of the Central Executive Council (CEC) of the NNC was held at its headquarters in Kohima on June 25, during which members condemned the killing of six Naga hostages in Manipur, elected a vice president, and urged members to remain vigilant in view of the prevailing situation.
According to a press release issued by FGN secretary, the meeting, chaired by Kulhumo Rhakho, noted that several members from Manipur could not attend due to the prevailing situation in the state, though key members shared their concerns and views.
The meeting appreciated the release of 14 Kuki hostages by Nagas in Manipur without harm, stating that it reflected the true spirit of the NNC’s policy of non-violence, although the organisation was not directly involved. However, it strongly condemned the killing of six Naga hostages by Kukis and claimed that Kukis were migrants in the Naga homeland.
CEC also said that if Kukis believed they could suppress the indigenous inhabitants with the help of outside agencies, “they are mistaken, and their children will regret the foolish actions taken today.”
The house also resolved to elect a vice president of Headquarters to assist the president in view of increased activities and fast-moving political developments in the Naga homeland.
Accordingly, the meeting unanimously elected Zapu-o Zhasa as vice president (HQ). He will assume office with immediate effect after taking the oath of office before the competent authority. The meeting further cautioned NNC members to remain alert in the event of increased hostile activities by its adversaries.
