DISHA meeting reviews held in Chumoukedima

DIMAPUR: The District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee (DISHA) meeting was convened at the Deputy Commissioner’s Conference Hall, Chumoukedima, on July 2 under the chairmanship of Member of Parliament and DISHA chairperson for Nagaland, S. Supongmeren Jamir, to review the implementation of Centrally Sponsored Schemes and developmental activities in the district.
According to a DIPR report, Jamir, addressing the gathering, said the primary objective of the meeting was to assess departmental progress, identify challenges in implementation and collectively find practical solutions to improve developmental outcomes. He emphasised that developmental activities must reach every section of society and clarified that the DISHA committee’s purpose is to strengthen governance and improve service delivery rather than oppose any department or the State Government.
DC Chumoukedima, Polan John, welcomed administrative officers, heads of departments and village council representatives. He expressed gratitude for the cooperation and feedback provided by departments in monitoring developmental programmes.
The meeting began with a review of the action taken report from the previous DISHA meeting held on July 16, 2025.
Follow-up reports were presented by the Industry Department, Rural Development, Public Health Engineering, Agriculture and the Youth Resources Department, highlighting progress on earlier issues.
PowerPoint presentations on the implementation of schemes and ongoing developmental works were delivered by District Agriculture Officer, Moainla Pongen; District Employment Officer, Ethel; Deputy Director, Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services, Dr. Michael Imchen; and District Urban Development Officer, Medosenuo.
The committee deliberated extensively on the status of ongoing projects, challenges affecting implementation and suggested modifications to improve delivery. Key issues discussed included sanitation, water stress, solid waste management and drainage. Members stressed the need for sustainable development strategies and highlighted the importance of addressing urban infrastructure challenges.
The construction of rainwater and storm water drainage systems was identified as a priority to mitigate urban flooding and strengthen resilience against water-related challenges.
Jamir underscored the importance of documentation, urging departments to maintain proper records of achievements and ensure accurate data management. He noted that such records serve as indicators of progress and aid effective planning. He also called for greater convergence among departments to maximise the impact of government programmes.
Referring to welfare measures under the Labour Department, Jamir urged intensified awareness campaigns in village clusters to ensure workers and youth are informed about government schemes, particularly eSHRAM registration and labour cards. He encouraged the department to explore ways to extend labour welfare benefits to more youths across Nagaland.
The chairperson concluded by urging all stakeholders to continue working in close convergence for the overall development of Chumoukedima district. He thanked participating departments and officials for their active contributions to the deliberations.
