“Be still, and know that I am God.” – Psalm 46:10
Life is a journey marked by constant change. Seasons come and go; circumstances shift unexpectedly; relationships evolve; successes and failures alternate in a continuous cycle. Indeed, it has often been said that the only constant in life is change. Yet, amidst the uncertainty and instability of this world, there remains one unchanging reality-God.
Unlike the fleeting nature of human existence, God remains eternally the same. His character does not fluctuate with time, nor do His promises lose their power. He is the all-knowing, all-powerful, ever-present God whose faithfulness endures forever. While everything around us may seem uncertain, God stands as the immovable Rock upon which we can confidently build our lives.
There is profound comfort in knowing that the God who guided His people in ancient times is the very same God who walks beside us today. Seasons may change, but God never does. His love remains steadfast even when we fall short. His mercy continues to flow despite our weaknesses and imperfections. In our darkest moments, when hope appears distant and the future uncertain, the unchanging God is still present, working behind the scenes for our good.
Through grace and faith, believers can draw strength from God’s unchanging nature. His wisdom becomes our guidance; His power becomes our refuge; His faithfulness becomes our assurance. No storm is too fierce, no valley too deep, and no burden too heavy for the One who holds all things together. He is always willing to lift us from our lowest moments and restore our confidence in Him.
However, one of the greatest challenges for many Christians is learning to be still. We live in an age that promotes immediate reactions and instant solutions. When difficulties arise, our first instinct is often to call a friend, share our troubles with others, or seek human answers before seeking divine guidance. While there is nothing wrong with seeking counsel, many times we overlook the most important step—bringing our concerns before God and waiting upon Him.
The command to “be still” is not merely an invitation; it is a call to trust. It requires us to cease striving in our own strength and acknowledge God’s sovereignty over every situation. Sadly, many fail to heed this command because they do not fully know or trust that He is God. Others struggle because they do not take His promises seriously enough to rest in them.
Scripture reminds us in Isaiah 40:31:
“But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.”
To wait upon the Lord is not passive resignation; it is active faith. It is patiently trusting God through prayer, surrendering our anxieties to Him, and expecting Him to work in His perfect timing. Waiting on God means believing that He knows what we cannot see and that His plans are higher than our own.
When we choose stillness over panic, faith over fear, and prayer over worry, we create room for God to move in our circumstances. Often, the changes we desperately seek begin not with a change in our situation, but with a change in our hearts. A grateful and humble spirit, even during difficult seasons, allows God’s peace to replace anxiety and His hope to dispel despair.
It is far better to sit still in faith and allow the unchanging God to transform our situation than to exhaust ourselves trying to manage everything alone. Human strength is limited, but God’s power is limitless. Human wisdom is flawed, but God’s understanding is perfect.
Therefore, when life’s storms rage and uncertainty clouds the horizon, remember this timeless truth: God is the only constant. He remains faithful when circumstances change, loving when hearts grow cold, and present when we feel alone. Be still. Trust His promises. Wait upon Him in faith. For the God who never changes is still at work, bringing light into darkness and hope into every situation.
In a world where everything changes, knowing the unchanging God is the believer’s greatest source of peace, strength, and confidence.
