PGC and MHSS hold Freshers’ Day

DIMAPUR: Peren Government College (PGC) organised its 39th Freshers’ Day on July 3 at the college conference hall under the theme “The Grand Prelude.” The event witnessed enthusiastic participation, extending a warm welcome to newly admitted students.
The programme began with an invocation, followed by a welcome address by Igong N. Ipuing, vice principal. Students showcased their talents through musical and dance performances. The highlight was the Freshers’ Contest, where Icaisuile Domta was crowned Miss Fresher and Keringngaulung Irangbe declared Mr. Fresher. Emazi and Masang Nbungcha were adjudged 1st runners up, while Keyizaibale and Inngeicube were declared 2nd runners up. Winners were felicitated with crowns, sashes, certificates and prizes. The celebration concluded with a gratitude note, marking the beginning of a new academic journey for the freshers.
Meanwhile, Modern Higher Secondary School (MHSS), Kohima organised Freshers’ Day to welcome the new batch of Class 11 students. The event began with prayer by Vilitoli Chishi, followed by a welcome address by Temastilchi R. Sangma, who encouraged students to embrace school life with enthusiasm. The school choir enthralled the audience with the song “Look at the World.”
On behalf of the seniors, Metevino Chishi delivered an inspiring speech, urging freshers to participate actively and uphold respect and hard work. Representing the freshers, Wewuzo Kapfo expressed gratitude for the warm welcome. Special guest Lolo Ezung, entrepreneur and YouTuber, exhorted students to stay focused and confident, while artiste Abdon Mech mesmerised the crowd with his performance.
The event also included felicitation of teachers and students for academic excellence. The much anticipated Mr & Miss Fresher 2026 titles were conferred on Ngeptai (Class 11 Arts) and Sumir Sunar (Class 11 Science) respectively. The Mr & Miss Multimedia 2026 titles were bagged by Somila and Lumjamo Patton.
