DIMAPUR: Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) cum Executive Officer, Chozuba Town Council, Zapuno Khatso, has issued an order enforcing a total ban on single‑use plastics (SUP) within the jurisdiction of Chozuba Town Council and all areas under Chozuba sub‑division, with immediate effect.
According to DIPR report, the ban covers items notified by the Urban Development Department across different years, including plastic carry bags of all sizes and thickness, plastic cutlery such as plates, cups, forks, spoons and straws, Styrofoam decorative materials, polythene, nylon, PVC, polypropylene and polystyrene. Flex banners, boards and posters used by departments, institutions and government agencies during functions and programmes are also prohibited.
Further restrictions include ear buds with plastic sticks, balloon sticks, plastic flags, candy sticks, ice‑cream sticks, thermocol decoration materials, plates, cups, trays, wrapping films around sweet boxes, invitation cards and cigarette packets, PVC banners below 100 microns and plastic stirrers. Packaged drinking water bottles below 20 litres capacity for meetings, functions, seminars and personal consumption have also been banned.
The ADC directed strict implementation of the order and urged all stakeholders to comply, reaffirming the administration’s commitment to environmental protection and sustainable waste management.
