Govt lifts emergency gas curbs

New Delhi, Jul 5 (PTI): The Centre has withdrawn most provisions of the emergency natural gas supply regulation imposed during the West Asia conflict after LNG shipments through the Strait of Hormuz resumed following a ceasefire.
In a notification issued on Saturday, the Petroleum Ministry amended the Natural Gas (Supply Regulation) Order, 2026, removing provisions introduced under the Essential Commodities Act to prioritise gas supplies during the crisis.
The ministry said the situation had improved following the ceasefire, ongoing negotiations and the resumption of maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz.
The gas supply restrictions were among three emergency measures introduced to safeguard energy supplies. The other two– maximising LPG production and restricting diesel sales to bulk consumers– had already been withdrawn.
India imports about 88 per cent of its crude oil and nearly half of its natural gas requirements, much of it from West Asia, making it vulnerable to disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz.
