DIMAPUR: Baptist College, Kohima observed its 44th Freshers’ Day on June 30 at Ura Academy Hall under the theme “New Beginnings, Endless Possibilities.”
According to DIPR report, gracing the occasion as guest speaker, Deputy Commissioner Kohima, B. Henok Buchem described college life as one of the best phases, offering both freedom and responsibility to shape one’s future. He urged students to embrace change with courage, reminding them that education extends beyond textbooks and degrees, shaping both knowledge and character.
Buchem encouraged the freshers to focus on learning, character and purpose, stressing critical thinking, integrity, compassion and resilience. Highlighting the rapidly changing world shaped by technology and entrepreneurship, he advised students to remain adaptable, pursue excellence over perfection and use education to serve humanity. He also lauded teachers for inspiring values and awakening potential, and urged students to choose friends wisely and use their freedom responsibly.
Earlier, principal Dr. Kekuchol Pusa welcomed the freshers and reminded them of upcoming internal assessments. Students’ Council president Thrunso K. extended greetings, while fresher representative Donensangle expressed gratitude for the warm reception.
The programme was chaired by Assistant Professor Tabitha K. Assumi with invocation by Asilie Rürhia. Fifth semester students presented a welcome song, followed by Mr. and Miss Freshers’ introduction and a musical performance titled “Spend It With You.” Vote of thanks was delivered by Students’ Council general secretary Sezono Temi, and the event concluded with prayer by College Chaplain Tamreimung Chüsi.
