DIMAPUR: Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, Nityanand Rai, undertook a two day visit to Mokokchung district from July 5 to 6, during which he chaired a review meeting with Heads of Departments and district level officers and also visited Ungma village to interact with community leaders and review cultural initiatives.
According to DIPR report, at the review meeting held at the Deputy Commissioner’s Conference Hall, Rai stressed the importance of effective implementation of centrally sponsored schemes to achieve the objectives envisioned by the Government of India.
He said proper execution was essential to ensure inclusive and equitable growth across all regions, urging departments to set clear priorities, formulate action plans and ensure transparency, accountability and timely delivery of services.
Highlighting Nagaland’s agricultural potential, the minister noted the state’s favourable natural resources and climate for organic farming.
He called for systematic utilization of resources to promote sustainable growth and improve livelihoods. Departments presented reports on schemes being implemented in Mokokchung, while Dr. Madhavi R., Additional Commissioner, delivered a presentation on the district profile.
The meeting was chaired by Ajit Kumar Verma, DC Mokokchung, and concluded with a vote of thanks by Atsung Walling, ADC (Hq).
On July 5, Rai visited Ungma village where he interacted with the village council at the community hall. Addressing the gathering, he said India’s strength lay in its diversity, with each region contributing unique traditions and cultural heritage. He acknowledged Padma Shri awardee Guru Sangyusang Pongener for his contribution to preserving Ao art and culture, stating such efforts were vital for future generations.
The minister inspected the library cum museum at Ungma and appreciated the initiatives to preserve Ao heritage. He also visited the ongoing construction of the hospital building at Imkongliba Memorial District Hospital, undertaken under the Purvottar Sampark Setu programme of the Ministry of DoNER.
