Governor reviews AYUSH hospital

DIMAPUR: Nagaland governor Nand Kishore Yadav on Friday stressed the need to strengthen the Integrated AYUSH Hospital while calling for improved infrastructure, wider public outreach and better access to integrated healthcare services across the state.
According to a Lok Bhavan statement, Yadav made the remarks during a visit to the Integrated AYUSH Hospital at Chedema, where he reviewed the hospital’s functioning and interacted with doctors, nurses, paramedical staff and other officials.
Addressing the gathering, the governor appreciated the dedication of healthcare professionals in delivering quality medical services and commended the hospital team for making the institution a centre of healing and hope for the people of Nagaland.
He noted that the Integrated AYUSH Hospital, inaugurated on March 4, 2022, was the third such hospital in the country, reflecting the government’s commitment to promoting holistic and integrative healthcare.
He also recalled the hospital’s contribution during the COVID-19 pandemic, when it served as Nagaland’s first designated COVID-19 hospital.
Highlighting the significance of India’s traditional systems of medicine, Yadav said AYUSH complements modern healthcare by emphasising preventive care, holistic wellness and healthy living. He observed that institutions such as the Integrated AYUSH Hospital have an increasingly important role in providing accessible, affordable and patient-centric healthcare.
The governor said the review meeting provided an opportunity to assess the hospital’s achievements, identify challenges and deliberate on measures to further strengthen its infrastructure, services and outreach.
He encouraged all stakeholders to continue working with dedication, innovation and compassion to develop the institution into a model centre for integrated healthcare.
Congratulating the doctors, healthcare workers and staff for their service, he conveyed his best wishes for the hospital’s continued success in improving the health and well-being of the people of Nagaland.
During the review, hospital officials presented an overview of the 50-bedded Integrated AYUSH Hospital, inaugurated on March 4, 2022, by Union AYUSH Minister Sarbananda Sonowal. Located at Razha Chedema, about 24 km from Kohima on the Phek-Meluri-Zunheboto road, the hospital serves eight surrounding villages.
Officials informed the governor that the hospital offers Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, and Homoeopathy services with a workforce of 43 staff members. Since its inception, it has recorded more than 10,050 outpatient consultations and treated 560 in-patients up to June 2026.
The hospital provides free Ayurveda and Homoeopathy medicines, laboratory services at nominal charges, Panchakarma therapy, naturopathy treatment, clinical yoga sessions and emergency care, particularly for road accident victims before referral to the Naga Hospital Authority Kohima.
Officials also highlighted the hospital’s outreach activities, including free health camps, awareness programmes in neighbouring villages, radio talks promoting the AYUSH system, and observance of International Yoga Day, World Homoeopathy Day, International Ayurveda Day, Doctors’ Day, International Nurses Day and World Environment Day.
The review also covered training and academic initiatives such as yoga instructor training, medicinal plant workshops, Prakriti assessments for security personnel, educational exposure visits and internship programmes for students.
The governor appreciated the efforts of the hospital’s doctors, nurses and staff in promoting holistic healthcare and encouraged the institution to continue expanding public outreach and improving healthcare delivery across the state.
