Nyamnyei demands probe in NST bus mishap

DIMAPUR: A. Nyamnyei Konyak, MLA of 48 Moka A/C and SDPDB chairman Tobu, has expressed grief and condoled the tragic Mon Tobu NST bus accident that occurred on July 9 at Ukha Changkhong Village, claiming one life and leaving several critically injured.
Condemning the alleged reckless act of the driver, reportedly under the influence of illegal substances, Nyamnyei termed the negligence “unacceptable” and demanded strict legal action. He recalled that the Tobu Area Students’ Union had earlier submitted a representation in May 2025 seeking replacement of the driver due to repeated indulgence in illegal substances and involvement in a prior accident, but no action was taken by the department.
Calling for a fair, transparent and time bound inquiry, the MLA urged authorities to hold all responsible fully accountable. He demanded adequate ex gratia compensation for the bereaved family and immediate financial assistance for the injured passengers.
Highlighting that the NST bus service is a lifeline for Tobu and Moka constituencies, Nyamnyei appealed to the government for prompt intervention to restore and resume services with necessary safety measures. On behalf of the people, he conveyed sympathy to the bereaved family and prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured.
