DIMAPUR, JUL 12 (NPN): Several organisations have strongly condemned the alleged sexual assault of a minor girl at Medziphema town on July 7 and demanded strict action against the accused under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
CWO: Chakhroma Women Organisation (CWO) has expressed concern over the increasing incidents of sexual violence against minors and condemned the alleged sexual assault of a 10-year-old girl at Medziphema town on July 7.
In a condemnation note issued through its general secretary Khriehuu Krose, CWO alleged that the victim was sexually assaulted by one Puomilun Lulun Kuki, a retired Army personnel and resident of Medziphema town.
CWO strongly demanded justice and accountability and appealed to the law enforcement agencies to conduct a fair investigation and book the accused under the relevant provisions of law, including the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. CWO also appealed to all citizens to stand united against such crimes.
CDGU: Chümoukedima District Gorkha Union (CDGU) has expressed shock and sorrow over the alleged sexual assault of a minor girl, a member of the union, at her residence in Medziphema town on July 7.
In a condemnation note, CDGU president Gopal Lama and general secretary John Chetri alleged that the minor was sexually assaulted by one Pauminlun Gangte of Ward No. 9, Medziphema Town.
The union expressed solidarity with the victim and her family and prayed for her healing, strength and protection.
It appealed to the concerned authorities to conduct a prompt, fair and impartial investigation and ensure that justice was delivered in accordance with the provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012.
The union also urged members of the public to respect the survivor’s privacy and refrain from spreading rumours or disclosing the identity of the victim.
Reaffirming its commitment to safeguarding children, the union called for creating an environment where every child is protected from abuse, exploitation and violence. It also encouraged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspected abuse to the appropriate authorities.
Condemning the incident, the union reaffirmed its commitment to justice, child protection and the dignity of every individual.
KCMT: Kuki Community Medziphema Town (KCMT) has strongly condemned the alleged sexual assault of a minor that occurred at Tsiepuoru Colony, Ward-9, Medziphema Town, on July 7.
In a condemnation note, KCMT described the incident as inhuman and condemned the alleged act committed by Paominlun Gangte, son of Lenthang Gangte. The community also declared that such an individual had no place within the community or the colony.
KCMT appealed to the administration and higher authorities to strictly enforce the provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act against the accused in accordance with the law.
Further, the community prayed for God’s comfort, strength and wisdom for the victim’s family, and wished the minor a speedy recovery.
MTWO: Medziphema Town Women Organization (MTWO) has expressed shock over the alleged sexual molestation of a 10-year-old girl on July 7, allegedly committed by one Pauminlun Gangte, an ex-serviceman and resident of Ward-9, Medziphema Town.
In a condemnation note, MTWO described the alleged incident as a heinous act against a minor and an attack on the safety, dignity and trust of the community. It said children were among the most vulnerable members of society and must be protected at all times.
MTWO demanded an immediate, impartial and thorough investigation by the appropriate law enforcement authorities and urged that the accused not be granted bail.
It also called for the accused to be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law and, if found guilty, awarded the strictest punishment permissible.
Further, MTWO urged the government to ensure that the victim and her family receive all necessary medical, psychological and legal support with confidentiality and sensitivity.
Expressing solidarity with the victim and her family, the organisation said it would monitor the progress of the investigation and prosecution. It also appealed to all right-thinking citizens to condemn such crimes and work together to make society safer for children and women.
CSU: Chakhroma Students’ Union (CSU) has strongly condemned the alleged sexual assault of a nine-year-old minor, reportedly committed by Paominlun Gangte, son of Lenthang Gangte and a resident of Maova Village, on July 7.
In a condemnation note, the union said it was deeply shocked by the reported incident, describing sexual offences against children as among the gravest violations of human dignity and fundamental rights. It said such crimes inflicted severe physical and psychological trauma on survivors while undermining the sense of safety within society, and reaffirmed its opposition to all forms of violence and abuse against children.
CSU welcomed the prompt action taken by the police in arresting the accused and expressed confidence that the investigation would be conducted in a fair, impartial and time-bound manner to ensure justice for the minor survivor in accordance with the law.
The union urged the authorities to invoke the provisions of the POCSO Act, along with all other applicable laws, so that anyone found guilty through due process is held fully accountable.
CSU also appreciated the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) and all concerned officials for their prompt intervention and commitment to safeguarding the rights and welfare of the minor survivor. It acknowledged the committee’s efforts in ensuring the child’s protection, care and access to necessary support services.
Expressing solidarity with the survivor and the family, the union appealed to the public to respect the child’s privacy and dignity while allowing the legal process to take its course. It also reaffirmed its commitment to protecting children from all forms of abuse and urged society to work collectively towards creating a safe and secure environment for every child.
