Awareness programme on palliative care held at Sao Chang College

DIMAPUR: Mentoring Committee of Sao Chang College, Tuensang, in collaboration with St. Joseph Pain and Palliative Care Centre (SJPC), Chümoukedima, organised an awareness programme on palliative care at the college auditorium on July 11.
The programme was conducted by Sr. Teris MSJ, administrator, and Sr. Cicil Therese MSJ, Councillor, who sensitised students and faculty members on the importance of palliative care and compassionate support for individuals living with chronic and terminal illnesses.
During the interactive session, the resource persons explained that SJPC was committed to providing holistic, compassionate and personalised care to patients with life limiting illnesses. They highlighted the Centre’s “No Bill” policy, under which medical, emotional, spiritual and psychosocial support is provided free of cost to all patients, regardless of background.
The speakers emphasised that while there may be limits to curing terminal illnesses, there should never be limits to providing care, comfort, dignity and hope. They outlined the Centre’s services, including terminal illness care, home based care, street outreach missions, end of life care, spiritual support and psychosocial counselling. Special emphasis was placed on the indispensable role of volunteers in strengthening palliative care services.
Students were encouraged to volunteer and actively contribute to building a compassionate community. The programme concluded with an appeal to cultivate empathy, social responsibility and a deeper understanding of palliative care among the student community.
