Gorkha student bodies condemn sexual assault on minor

DIMAPUR: All Nagaland Gorkha Students’ Union (ANGSU), Gorkha Students’ Union Chümoukedima District (GSUCD), Gorkha Students’ Union Kohima (GSUK), and Gorkha Students’ Union Mokokchung (GSUM) have vehemently condemned the alleged sexual assault of a minor girl on July 7 at Medziphema Town.
ANGSU: ANGSU expressed shock and profound concern over the incident, terming allegations of sexual violence against children deeply disturbing. It demanded utmost seriousness, compassion and urgency from institutions and the justice system, while urging authorities to conduct a prompt, impartial and thorough investigation. The Union appealed for prosecution of the accused under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012, and stressed the need to ensure the minor’s protection, privacy, dignity and access to medical, psychological and legal support. ANGSU also conveyed gratitude to Abou u Kuotsu, GB of Ward 9, Medziphema, for swiftly helping file the FIR and expelling the accused from the ward.
GSUCD: GSUCD described the act as a grave violation of human rights and dignity. It urged law enforcement to carry out a fair, transparent and time bound investigation, holding the accused fully accountable if found guilty. The Union appealed to the public to remain calm, avoid rumours and misinformation, and expressed unwavering solidarity with the survivor and her family. It further pledged to monitor the case closely and extend all possible support to ensure justice.
GSUK: GSUK termed the assault a heinous act against the dignity, safety and rights of every child. It called upon authorities to prosecute the accused under relevant laws and safeguard the survivor’s privacy and well being through medical, psychological and legal assistance. GSUK also appealed to citizens, civil society organisations and student bodies to unite in condemning the crime and supporting efforts for swift and fair justice.
GSUM: GSUM issued condemnation of the “horrific and abhorrent” act, describing it as a profound violation of trust and a tragedy causing lasting harm to the victim, family and community. It urged law enforcement and the justice system to conduct a swift, thorough and transparent investigation, while calling for accountability at every level. GSUM appealed for vigilance in society and reaffirmed solidarity with the victim and her loved ones during this difficult time.
