TNR clarifies stand on RPP-NPF merger

DIMAPUR, JUL 14 (NPN): The Naga Rising (TNR) has said the recent merger of the erstwhile Rising People’s Party (RPP) with the Naga People’s Front prompted it to clarify its position while reaffirming its commitment to the vision with which the party was formed.
In a statement, TNR said the RPP was established through its initiative to provide an alternative and work towards bringing transformation in Nagaland. It said the party was intended to function as an independent entity while remaining organically linked to its parent body.
According to TNR, a team led by Joel Naga was entrusted with the responsibility of building the party, while TNR was to provide guidance and support. However, it admitted that owing to its own limitations, including resource constraints, it could not fulfil that responsibility.
TNR said that when the merger proposal was brought to its notice, it had advised the RPP leadership to explore every possible means to keep the party alive. However, it believed the prevailing political circumstances left the party with no option but to proceed with the merger.
Expressing regret over the development, TNR acknowledged the selfless service and sacrifices of the RPP rank and file, stating that the party had made sincere efforts but was unable to sustain itself. It wished them success in their new political journey and expressed hope that they would remain committed to fighting systemic ills detrimental to society.
TNR said it would continue to uphold its vision of establishing a political paradigm that defines power with morality, upholds justice for all and equality before law, promotes accountability and transparency in governance, and nurtures a citizenry aware of its rights and respectful of its obligations. TNR also assured the younger generation that these ideals would continue to guide the organisation.
