DIMAPUR, JUL 19 (NPN): Nagaland chief minister Neiphiu Rio has announced immediate ex-gratia assistance of Rs. 4 lakh to the next of kin of each person killed in the Mon landslide and Rs. 74,000 to each injured person.
According to a DIPR report, relief assistance, including food, temporary shelter, essential commodities and other eligible support, will also be provided to all affected families across the impacted districts. The state government expressed profound grief over the landslide that struck Mon town, resulting in loss of lives and extensive damage to property and infrastructure. It conveyed condolences to the bereaved families, prayed for the departed souls and wished a speedy recovery to the injured.
The government said it was closely monitoring the evolving situation arising from the ongoing extreme weather affecting several parts of the state. Besides Mon district, Tuli subdivision in Mokokchung district and other affected areas have witnessed landslides, flash floods, road blockages and damage to public infrastructure and private property.
It said the Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority, District Disaster Management Authorities, district administrations, State Disaster Response Force, Nagaland Police and other line departments were undertaking search and rescue operations, evacuating vulnerable residents, restoring essential services and providing immediate relief.
The government has directed all concerned departments to remain on high alert and ensure seamless inter-departmental coordination for timely response, restoration of connectivity and rehabilitation of affected communities. It said continuous assessment was being carried out and additional assistance would be mobilised wherever required.
The public has been advised to remain vigilant, avoid vulnerable slopes, riverbanks and landslide-prone areas, follow advisories issued by the NSDMA, Home Department and district administrations, cooperate with emergency response agencies, rely only on official sources of information and refrain from circulating unverified reports or rumours.
The government assured that it remained committed to extending all assistance, ensuring timely relief and restoring normalcy at the earliest.
