DIMAPUR: Can Youth organised the distribution of materials to Community First Responders (CFRs) at its office to mark the successful completion of the CFR Training Programme, implemented in collaboration with the Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA) during 2024–2025 across Chümoukedima and Dimapur districts.
The programme was chaired by Gaihemlu Gonmei and attended by officials from NSDMA and DDMA, CFRs, civil society representatives and invited guests. Invocation was offered by Dr. Gaihianlung Kamei, director, CUPA, Rongmei Baptist Church, Burma Camp, Dimapur.
Delivering the keynote address, Jenpu Rhakho Rongmei, founder and chief functionary of Can Youth, highlighted the significance of the CFR initiative in strengthening community based disaster preparedness. He said the partnership with NSDMA had equipped young volunteers with essential knowledge and practical skills to respond effectively during emergencies. He encouraged responders to serve their communities with dedication and integrity, stressing that disaster preparedness is a shared responsibility.
A presentation showcasing the journey and achievements of the CFR Training Programme was followed by an experience sharing session by Prodip Dey, a CFR, who reflected on the skills and confidence gained through the training.
Special guest P. Inaka Sema, Assistant Manager (GCC), NSDMA & Nodal Officer, DDMA Dimapur, commended Can Youth and the CFRs for their commitment to disaster preparedness. He urged volunteers to prioritize their own safety before assisting others and said the helmets and reflective jackets symbolize dignity, responsibility and preparedness. He encouraged responders to wear the uniform with pride while serving the community.
The highlight of the programme was the distribution of helmets and reflective jackets to the trained CFRs, symbolizing their readiness for effective emergency response. Vote of thanks was delivered by Nuyielu Nyekha, Programme Manager, Can Youth, who expressed gratitude to NSDMA, dignitaries, CFRs, volunteers, civil society organisations and participants for their support.
The CFR initiative reflects Can Youth’s ongoing commitment to building resilient communities by empowering volunteers with the knowledge, skills and resources needed to respond effectively during disasters and emergencies.
