DIMAPUR: Advisor to the Chief Minister of Nagaland for SCERT & Food Processing, Achumbemo Kikon underscored the pressing need for environmental stewardship, urging society to pivot away from shortsighted consumerism.
Speaking as guest of honour at the 24th installation ceremony of Rotary Club of Kohima for the new Board of Directors (BoDs) held at Hotel Japfü, Kohima on July 17, Achumbemo reminded that “the present generation has essentially borrowed the earth from future generations.” He called upon Rotarians to take up ecological education and lead community initiatives aimed at conservation and building a greener future.
In recognition of his public service and alignment with Rotary ideals, the Rotary Club of Kohima formally inducted Achumbemo as an honorary member. The installation of the new board was solemnized by Dr. Rosemary Dzüvichü, Charter president and Club advisor. The new team is led by president Dr. Keneilhoulie Medom, vice president Neingutuo Usou, secretary N. Pipen Yanthan, and treasurer Kevisano Maria. Four new members were also inducted during the ceremony.
Guided by Rotary’s core motto “Service Above Self” and the global theme “Creating a Lasting Impact through Rotary,” Dr. Medom outlined strategic goals for the year.
The club will focus on expanding community outreach, promoting women empowerment, youth engagement, cross cultural collaboration and peace initiatives.
Veteran member Om Prakash Gupta of Rotary Club Dimapur reflected on Rotary’s history of community impact and encouraged the new directors to embrace the opportunity to give back to society. The programme also featured the presentation of the Club annual report by outgoing secretary Amongla C, valedictory address by outgoing president Kevino Savino, and certificates to 20 women supported through the club’s tailoring training unit during 2025 26.
The ceremony was anchored by past president Kevilenuo Solo, while vote of thanks was delivered by N. Pipen Yanthan. A delegation from Rotary Club Dimapur led by its president Pradeep Goel also attended the event, showing solidarity with the Kohima club.
