DIMAPUR, JUL 20 (NPN): All Nagaland College Students’ Union (ANCSU) has served a three-day ultimatum on the higher education department to initiate the disbursement of the pending Post-Matric Scholarship (PMS-ST) for 2025-26, warning of democratic mass agitation if the demand was not met.
In an ultimatum addressed to the ex-officio director higher education, ANCSU president Kivika Yeptho and general secretary Sotilo Tep expressed strong displeasure over the continued delay in releasing the scholarships, saying it has caused immense hardship to thousands of eligible students across the state.
The union accused the department of misleading ANCSU officials and the student community by assuring that scholarships would be disbursed from July 18, but failed to fulfil the commitment.
It said the repeated assurances, which did not materialise, had severely eroded students’ confidence in the department and reflected a lack of accountability towards their welfare.
ANCSU demanded that the department initiate the disbursement of the pending PMS-ST scholarships to all eligible beneficiaries within three days.
The union warned that failure to comply within the stipulated period would leave it with no option but to launch democratic mass agitation to safeguard the legitimate rights and welfare of the student community. ANCSU said the department would be solely responsible for any consequences arising from its continued inaction.
ANCSU also urged the higher education minister to intervene and ensure the scholarships were released without forcing students into an avoidable protest.
Meanwhile, the union has appealed to students to remain calm and refrain from participating in any agitation, stating that it would initiate protests only if the department failed to begin the disbursement within the three-day deadline.
