DC Kohima inspects census operations

DIMAPUR: As part of the ongoing House Listing and Housing Census (Phase I) under the Census of India 2027, Deputy Commissioner and Principal Census Officer, Kohima, B. Henok Buchem, undertook a field visit to Viswema and Jakhama on July 20. He was accompanied by SDO (C), Jakhama, Vineikho Tetso, and EAC (HQ), Kohima, Dr. Riku Khutso.
According to a DIPR report, the Deputy Commissioner inspected the census operations in both villages to review the progress of the House Listing and Housing Census. This marked his first official visit to the two villages. He also congratulated the newly elected members of the Viswema Village Council and Jakhama Village Council. The field inspection forms part of a district wide tour covering all Census Charge Areas under Kohima district. The initiative aims to monitor the quality and accuracy of data collection and strengthen coordination among census officials to ensure the successful conduct of the Census of India 2027.
During the visit, the officials interacted with village authorities and stakeholders, urging them to extend full cooperation to census officials to ensure an accurate and inclusive census. Speaking on the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner remarked that the Southern Angami Public Organisation (SAPO) is one of the most effective organisations and has consistently extended valuable cooperation to the District Administration.
The programme was held separately in the two villages. The first interaction took place at Viswema Village, followed by the second at Jakhama Village. Both programmes were attended by Village Council members, Gaon Buras (GBs), and representatives of women’s organisations.
Later, the Deputy Commissioner visited the Sub Divisional Office, Jakhama, where he interacted with officers and staff and reviewed the functioning of the office.
