New Delhi, Jul 20 (PTI): Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Monday accused the government of “crushing” the students and youth by lathi-charging them for raising the NEET paper leak issue, and said this government is not fit to be in power as it does not know how to conduct examinations.
Kharge, who is the leader of opposition in Rajya Sabha, first raised the issue soon after the obituary references were made by the Chairman.
“I am thankful to you; you have given me an opportunity to put forth my views about this paper leak and NEET examination ‘ghotala’ (scam). This is an issue of students and the issue of the future of lakhs of students. Thousands of students have gathered together at Jantar Mantar against this, and the government is carrying out a lathi-charge against them, and the government is trying to crush and beat them,” Kharge said in the upper house.
Soon, Rajya Sabha Chairman C P Radhakrishnan adjourned the house till 12 noon.
Later, Kharge shared his speech in Rajya Sabha on X, saying, “Children are sitting at Jantar Mantar against paper leaks, but a lathi charge is being carried out on them. The Modi government is trying to suppress the voice of our youth.”
In another post, Kharge said, “This government is doing lathi-charge on the youth and students. If you don’t know how to conduct Examinations… then vacate the seat of power and the public will come! These people are not fit to be in power!”
He alleged that donations in the name of God were stolen, and now they’re stealing money from the public in the name of Ram devotees.
“Modi ji should take responsibility for this, because he created the (Shri Ram Janmbhoomi Teerth Kshetra) Trust,” he said.
Speaking to the media, he said Congress members had given notices and spoke about the NEET examination, which has taken several lives, and the government is not taking care of students.
“If they indulge in lathi-charge on youth, students, this is an attack on democracy. If people come to Delhi to raise their issues and they crush them like this, then this is not democracy. They are troubling the students and youth and they are not fit to remain in power,” he said.
“We have also raised the issue of ‘chanda chori’, as they have looted crores in the name of Lord Ram and the devotees are stealing this money,” Kharge said, asserting that Modi should take responsibility for the alleged theft as it is he who had formed the Ram temple trust.
Kharge has been raising the issue of ‘chanda chori’ and paper leaks, especially in the NEET medical entrance examination, and the Congress has been demanding a Supreme Court-monitored investigation.
