DIMAPUR: Continuous heavy rains over the past week have unleashed landslides, mudslides and road sinking across Nagaland, cutting off vital connectivity, damaging houses and property, and prompting emergency measures from district administrations.
Authorities, community organisations and volunteers are engaged in rescue, relief and road clearing operations as the state grapples with widespread disruption.
DC Mkg reviews post flood, landslide situation; relief and road clearance underway

MOKOKCHUNG: District Administration Mokokchung convened an emergency meeting of the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) at the DC’s conference hall on Tuesday to review the post flood situation at Tuli and landslides reported under the district.
The meeting, chaired by Deputy Commissioner Ajit Kumar Verma, discussed the situation with inputs from PWD (R&B), National Highways, Power, Medical and other concerned departments. Briefing the media later, the DC informed that the administration had immediately activated the team at Tuli led by ADC Tuli and SDO (C) when reports of flooding were received. With cooperation from the public, the situation was brought under control, and water levels have since begun receding, providing relief to affected residents.
Relief materials have already been distributed, and the DC said additional assistance in the form of utensils and other essentials would be provided to families whose houses were damaged. He stressed that the administration’s main task was to normalize the situation in Tuli, adding that civil society and other stakeholders had extended due support.
The DC further informed that reports of landslides from multiple locations across the district had been received. Administrative officers have been nominated as incident commanders under the Disaster Management Act to assess the situation and coordinate clearance of road blockages with support from line departments.
Highlighting the importance of maintaining essential supplies, the DC said ensuring adequate stock of petroleum products and LPG was a major concern. He requested PWD (NH) to keep the Mokokchung–Mariani Road (NH 702D) pliable, as it remains the district’s only lifeline. Dedicated teams and machinery will be deployed to ensure the route remains open.
The DC also mentioned that transport and related issues were discussed, while support and guidance were being extended by NSDMA and the Chief Minister’s Office, which has sent 100 quintals of rice for distribution in Tuli. He added that further assessments would be shared with NSDMA Kohima and higher authorities to mitigate and normalize the situation at the earliest.
Landslides cut off Longleng; DC imposes fuel restrictions
Longleng: District Administration Longleng, led by Deputy Commissioner W. Manpai Phom, along with Superintendent of Police, DDMA, PWD (R&B) and Dobashis, inspected areas affected by landslides on July 21.
According to DIPR report, due to incessant rain on July 19, the district has been cut off from all sides, including Longleng-Changtongya, Longleng-Tuensang, Longleng-Aboi, Tamlu-Merangkong and Tamlu-Wakching routes. Reports indicated landslides, mudslides and flash floods causing damage to property, plantations, farms and road infrastructure, though no loss of life was reported. District Administration, DDMA and PWD (R&B) are currently engaged in clearing the roads.
Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner informed that the heavy rainfall has severely damaged national highways along Longleng–Changtongya, Longleng–Tamlu, Longleng–Aboi (Mon) and Longleng–Tuensang routes, completely cutting off inter district and intra village connectivity. In view of the situation, the DC imposed immediate restrictions on the sale of petrol and diesel to ensure equitable distribution and maintain essential supplies.
As per the order, the public has been directed to strictly adhere to the regulations to avoid panic buying and hoarding. Sale of petrol and diesel has been limited to a maximum of 5 litres per vehicle, while sale and purchase of fuel in jerry cans or containers has been strictly prohibited. The order will remain in force until further notification.
Incessant rain damages roads, houses in Bhandari sub‑division
Wokha: Incessant heavy rain from July 18 to 20, 2026 has caused road sinking along the lone connectivity route from Zero Point, Bhandari town to Bhandari village, Alikhum, Longchum and Yimpang villages under Wokha district. Road sinking was also reported about 2–3 km away from Zero Point towards Yimpang village.
According to Rikhyothung Odyuo, vice president of Lotha Youth Hoho, residents of Bhandari and surrounding villages mobilised volunteers to repair the damaged road and cleared portions of the blockage to facilitate passage for the public.
In Ward 8 of Bhandari town, the houses belonging to Penthungo Yanthan and Helen Yanthan were severely affected by landslides. Another house at Yimpang village, belonging to B. Zuben Yanthan, was also badly damaged, stated a DIPR report.
