DIMAPUR: In view of the prevailing monsoon season and continuous rainfall across Nagaland, district administrations of Longleng, Phek and Chümoukedima have issued public advisories urging citizens to remain cautious and adhere to safety measures.
In Longleng, Deputy Commissioner W. Manpai Phom has issued a circular advising the public to remain alert and take necessary safety measures.
According to a DIPR report, citizens have been cautioned not to venture near riverbanks, overflowing drains or streams during the ongoing rainy season. The advisory further urged the public to avoid non essential travel during torrential rains, stay away from landslide prone areas and unstable slopes, and regularly check weather updates and forecasts while closely following instructions issued by the district administration and other competent authorities.
DC also appealed to the public to cooperate with authorities in managing disaster situations and to refrain from spreading unverified information or rumours. Residents have been asked to immediately report emergencies, landslides, disaster incidents or persons in distress to the nearest Administrative Office, Police Station, Village Council, or contact the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) Longleng at 8974567675 / 8837009660.

In Chümoukedima, Deputy Commissioner and chairman, DDMA, Polan John, issued a detailed advisory cautioning against venturing into flooded areas, drains, culverts and rivers such as Chathe and Dhansiri.
DDMA further warned against unauthorized excavation of riverbanks, extraction of sand, gravel or boulders, and road or earth cutting activities that could weaken roads, bridges, embankments and other public infrastructure, cautioning that such activities would invite legal action.
Residents living near rivers, flood prone areas, hill slopes and landslide prone locations have been advised to remain alert and shift to safer places immediately if risks are detected or if instructed by authorities. Parents and guardians were urged to ensure that children, elderly persons and persons with disabilities stay away from rivers, drains, flooded areas and unstable slopes.
The advisory also recommended avoiding unnecessary travel during heavy rainfall, particularly at night, and urged commuters to exercise extreme caution along vulnerable stretches of NH 29, especially the Tsiedukhru section (Chathe Bridge–Unity Gate–Khuokhri Bridge, Kudidolong Village) and landslide prone areas of Pherima, Tsiepama and Piphema. Motorists were asked to follow traffic diversions and instructions issued by authorities.
Citizens were requested to monitor official weather updates from NSDMA and IMD, avoid spreading unverified information, maintain hygiene to prevent water borne diseases, and immediately report incidents of flooding, landslides, road blockages, damaged infrastructure, injuries or other emergencies to DDMA, Police, Fire & Emergency Services or the nearest Administrative Office.
Deputy Commissioner informed that the authority, in coordination with all concerned departments, is closely monitoring the situation and has kept emergency response teams on standby. He appealed to the public to extend full cooperation to the authorities and strictly adhere to all safety advisories in the interest of public safety and contact the following emergency numbers: NSDMA Toll Free: 1070; ERSS: 112; DPA, DDMA Chümoukedima: 7085288949 and LSA, DDMA Chümoukedima: 9862038156 for any incidents on monsoon effect.
In Phek, Deputy Commissioner and chairman, District Disaster Management Authority, Phek, Rhosietho Nguori has informed that, in view of the monsoon rainfall experienced across Phek district, heavy rainfall is expected in lowlands and foothill areas of Phek district leading to possibility of water logging, flash flooding, landslides and rising water level in rivers and streams due to heavy precipitation in the catchment areas.
As a precautionary measure and in order to avoid any eventualities, the DC urged and advised the general public to refrain from venturing out to the river banks for picnic and fishing etc during current rainfall monsoon season.
Public are also informed to report area administrative officers or report to given helpline numbers (DDMA Phek: 9612991418, State Emergency Operation Centre: (a) 0370-2270129/30 and (b)1070 (Toll free number) on any incidents/summer monsoon effect.
Further, all area Administrative Officers/ Heads of Departments/ Village Disaster Management Authorities and Village Council Authorities/ Ward Authorities are directed to be on standby to attend emergencies resulting from natural calamities.
