DIMAPUR: Food Safety Administration, Dimapur Zone, conducted Food Safety Awareness Programmes at Longkei, Leangyu, Tuimei, Phuktong and Mon villages on July 16 and 17, 2026 under Mon district to promote food safety awareness and healthy dietary practices.
According to Food Safety Administration Dimapur Zone, during the programmes, Food Safety Officer, Mon, Tiaienla highlighted importance of obtaining FSSAI licensing and registration for food business operators to ensure compliance with food safety standards.
Food Technician, Zuthungbemo K Ngullie also delivered awareness sessions on the theme “Food Safety is Everyone’s Responsibility”, emphasising proper hand wash, safe food handling, safe drinking water, personal hygiene and maintaining appropriate temperatures for cooked foods to prevent foodborne illnesses.
He also explained food hazards, particularly biological contamination and stressed the importance of washing fruits and vegetables before consumption.
Participants were further educated on benefits of fortified rice distributed under Public Distribution System, difference between medically recommended ORS and commercially available ORSL beverages, healthy dietary practices and health risks associated with excessive consumption of pork lard and repeatedly used cooking oil, while awareness on high sugar content and artificial additives in packaged snack foods, encouraging participants to read food labels, eat balanced diet and maintain cleanliness during food preparation, were also delivered.
Hands -on demonstrations, distribution of flyers, aprons, notepads and pens and display of educational posters to reinforce key food safety messages, were other activities conducted during the camps.
