DIMAPUR, JUL 23 (NPN): The Naga Students; Federation (NSF) has urged the state government to strengthen disaster preparedness and develop climate-resilient infrastructure across the state in the wake of the recent landslides and flash floods.
In a press statement, NSF president Mteisuding and general secretary Kenilo Kent called for greater investment in scientific landslide mitigation, proper drainage systems, slope stabilisation, early warning mechanisms, hazard mapping and resilient public infrastructure, particularly in vulnerable and high-risk areas, to minimise the impact of future disasters.
Expressing profound grief over the loss of lives in the devastating landslides and flash floods that struck Mon district and other parts of the state, NSF conveyed its heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families, prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured and assured solidarity with all affected communities.
NSF appealed to the government to ensure that comprehensive relief measures reach every affected family in a timely, transparent and equitable manner. Beyond emergency assistance and ex gratia support, it urged the government to prioritise long-term rehabilitation, restoration of damaged roads, bridges, electricity, water supply and communication networks, and provide adequate compensation for the loss of homes, crops, livestock and other properties.
The federation acknowledged the efforts of the state government, district administrations, Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority, State Disaster Response Force, security forces, medical personnel, civil society organisations, churches, volunteers and all others engaged in rescue, relief and rehabilitation operations under extremely challenging circumstances.
It also appealed to Naga citizens, tribal bodies, student organisations, churches, civil society organisations, business establishments and well-wishers to come together in the true spirit of unity and extend every possible support to the affected families, stating that every act of compassion would help communities rebuild their lives with dignity and hope.
Reaffirming its solidarity with the people of Mon and every affected community, the Federation prayed for eternal peace for the departed, healing for the injured, comfort for the bereaved families, and renewed hope and strength for all those affected.
NSF calls for stringent enforcement NLTP Act
DIMAPUR, JUL 23 (NPN): Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) has expressed serious concern over the rampant violation of the Nagaland Liquor Total Prohibition (NLTP) Act, 1989, and urged the state government to ensure its strict and uniform enforcement. In a representation addressed to the chief secretary, NSF president Mteisuding and general secretary Kenilo Kent noted that numerous illegal bars, liquor outlets and night clubs continued to operate openly across the state with impunity. NSF also highlighted the proliferation of bootlegging and organised illicit liquor trade, which it said contributed to organised crime, corruption, public disorder and social problems, particularly among the youth.
NSF warned all individuals and syndicates involved in bootlegging and illegal sale of liquor to immediately cease their activities, stating that it would not remain a silent spectator.
The federation also criticised what it described as the laxity and failure of law enforcement agencies and concerned departments in addressing these blatant violations.
NSF called upon the state government to direct all deputy commissioners, police, excise department and other authorities to launch coordinated and sustained enforcement drives against all illegal establishments and offenders.
The federation demanded that all violators be identified, prosecuted and dealt with strictly in accordance with the law.
NSF cautioned that if the present state of violations and administrative inaction continued, it would be compelled to initiate its own democratic course of action.
The federation said the government and concerned authorities would be held responsible for any consequences arising from the failure to enforce the law.
NSF also urged the state government to treat the matter with seriousness and take immediate corrective measures to restore public confidence in the rule of law.
