DIMAPUR, JUL 23 (NPN): In a significant development within the Naga political movement, the NSCN/GPRN Eastern Flank has declared the establishment of a “provisional government”, saying the move was aimed at “saving the nation from another surrender” and “rescue the Naga political movement from its present predicament.”
The decision was taken at an “Extraordinary Joint Emergency Meeting” of the civil national workers and Naga army officers of the National Socialist Council of Nagalim/Government of the People’s Republic of Nagalim (NSCN/GPRN), Eastern Flank, held at Mt. Horeb Camp on July 21 under the chairmanship of ‘lt. gen.’ (Retd.) Hs. Ramsan.
According to a statement issued by additional secretary Edward Sayai, the meeting adopted a series of resolutions, including the declaration that the provisional government would remain in place until a full-fledged government is formed.
The meeting unanimously entrusted Ikato I Chishi Swu as chairman of the provisional government, with ‘lt. gen.’ (Retd.) Hs. Ramsan, ‘lt. col.’ (Retd.) Victor Angami, ‘lt. gen.’ A. Raman, ‘brig.’ Detail Dani and Angyo Jacob Jingseya as members, while Ngaranmi Jagoi, Merry Ramsan and Rev. Vitovi Yeputho were named advisors.
It stated that the chairman, members and advisors would be administered an oath of allegiance by an ordained minister.
The meeting resolved to renew the covenant “Nagalim for Christ” and uphold what it described as the “Naga national principle for the sovereign existence of the Naga nation at all cost”.
It declared the expulsion orders issued against ‘lt. gen.’ (Retd.) Hs. Ramsan, ‘lt. gen.’ A. Raman, ‘lt. col’. (Retd.) Victor Angami, Ikato I Chishi Swu, Rev. Vitovi Yeputho, Pamshang Zimik and Angyo Jingseya as “null and void”, alleging that the expulsions were intended to silence veterans and facilitate compromise through a piecemeal solution.
The meeting claimed the allegations against them were false and fabricated, adding that written letters, statements and clarifications had already been issued to the concerned authorities and the Naga public. It further stated that those who had surrendered to the pressure of the Government of India had no right to expel or terminate those who continued to strive for what it termed the sovereign existence of the Naga nation.
The meeting also condemned the “Competencies” submitted to the Government of India by the leadership of the NSCN/GPRN, alleging that they compromised and surrendered the right to the sovereign existence of the Naga nation within the Union/Constitution of India.
According to the resolutions, the meeting held that the “Competencies” violated Chapter X(a) of the party manifesto, which states, “We stand for the unquestionable right of the Naga people over every inch of Nagalim wherever it may be and admit of no other existence whatever.” It also alleged that they violated the Preamble of the Yehzabo, which states that sovereignty belongs to Almighty God and that the authority of the people is a sacred trust from God.
The meeting further claimed that the Government of India had served a three-month ultimatum from August to October 2019 to the NSCN/GPRN, stipulating that there would be no further talks on a separate flag and separate constitution for the Nagas. It alleged that despite this, the leadership at Hebron/GHQ continued negotiations on the basis of the “compromised and surrendered Competencies” within the Union/Constitution of India.
Referring to a statement issued by the chief political negotiator, general secretary/ato kilonser Th. Muivah on November 7, 2024, the meeting said it had declared that “if such political initiative is rejected by the Government of India, the NSCN shall resume violent armed resistance against India for defending the Nagalim unique history and her sovereign existences.”
It further alleged that the leadership at Hebron/GHQ failed to take the necessary steps outlined in that statement by Th Muivah.
The meeting also declared that the spirit of the ceasefire agreement had ceased to exist following what it described as the Government of India’s betrayal of the Framework Agreement, and stated that it would “keep continuing both political as well as armed resistance to safeguard the sovereign existence of the Naga nation.”
The meeting also called upon Naga national workers and the Nagas in general to join in the formation of what it described as a unified national government that upholds the principles of the party’s founding fathers and spearheads the movement for the sovereign existence of the Naga nation.
