DIMAPUR: A meeting of the District Water and Sanitation Committee (DWSC), Kohima was held on July 22, 2026 at the office chamber of the ADC Kohima.
Chairing the meeting, ADC Ruopfûkuotuo Noudi referred to a letter from the Ministry of Jal Shakti and informed members that the district had not uploaded DWSC meeting minutes over the past year. He stressed the need for timely uploading of proceedings, enquired about the status of water quality testing, and urged all line departments to strengthen coordination for effective implementation of water and sanitation programmes. He also reviewed the progress of Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) activities and appreciated officers for their efforts.
Executive Engineer, PHED Rural Division, Kohima presented updates on JJM and Swachh Bharat Mission (Gramin) [SBM(G)]. Under JJM, out of 66 habitations, 35 villages have reported Har Ghar Jal tap connections, with the remaining targeted for completion by December. Under SBM(G), out of 63 habitations, 46 villages have been declared Open Defecation Free (ODF) Plus Model villages, while the remaining 17 are also targeted for completion by December.
The meeting discussed integration of JJM infrastructure data for uploading to the online portal, IEC activities conducted from June 1–5, and sought assistance from the Rural Development Department for JJM implementation. Limited funds and high targets were cited as key challenges, though JJM coverage in Kohima district has reached about 90 percent, with priority given to medical centres.
The School Education Department reported that out of 116 schools in the district, including 93 rural schools, 55 schools have been provided tap water connections. The committee decided that the department would submit a list of schools requiring connections to the concerned authority for necessary action.
