DIMAPUR: Deputy Commissioner Mokokchung Ajit Kumar Verma and Senior Superintendent of Police Vesupra Kezo, along with officials from the district administration and PWD (NH), on Thursday visited landslide sites that severely damaged NH 2.
A massive landslide between Chuchuyimlang and Unger villages carried away about 100 metres and damaged over 200 metres of the highway, disrupting transportation of essential commodities and goods. The NH 2 is a crucial lifeline for four districts-Mokokchung, Longleng, Zunheboto and Tuensang.
The DC and SP, accompanied by government officials, assessed the damage and interacted with Village Council members of Chuchuyimlang and Unger.
An alternate road bypassing the affected stretch has been provided for light vehicles, though the DC appealed to village councils and landowners to donate land so that PWD (NH) can enlarge the road for safer passage. Officials noted that complete restoration of NH 2 may take several months due to the extent of damage and ongoing monsoon rains.
The team also inspected landslide damage along NH 702 leading to Longleng and Tuensang from Changtongya town. Two houses were reported completely damaged and several partially affected. The DC and SP interacted with victims and assured support.
They were accompanied by SDO (C) Changtongya, EAC Chuchuyimlang, EAC Mokokchung, Executive Engineer PWD (NH) Mokokchung, SDO PWD (NH) Changtongya and other officials.
