DIMAPUR: A coordination meeting for the landslide affected area at Mon Town was convened on July 22 at the Konyak Union Office by the District Administration along with SP Mon, Konyak Union, Konyak Students’ Union, Konyak Nyupuh Sheko Khong, and advisor for Social Welfare Wangpang Konyak.
According to a DIPR report, DC Mon briefed members on road blockages and clearance works, as well as the ongoing search and rescue operation to retrieve a missing person at Walo Ward.
He also informed that the Power Department, led by the Executive Engineer and SDO Power, was working to restore electricity after detecting line faults and clearing fallen trees along the 66kv Nagnimora–Tizit Line.
Advisor Wangpang Konyak conveyed sympathy to the affected family and commended the District Administration, Assam Rifles, civil society, DEF, and volunteers for their tireless efforts. He handed over Rs. 2 lakh to the Konyak Union for emergency use, while Langsa Hill Welfare Society donated Rs. 5 lakh to the landslide relief camp.
Meanwhile, an emergency meeting of the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Tuensang was held on July 23 at the DC’s Office Chamber to review the impact of continuous rainfall across the district.
The meeting deliberated on reports of property damage, road blockages and landslides, though no loss of life has been reported so far. Members were apprised of the sinking of the District Transport Office located at Post Office Tuensang, where 39 families were relocated for safety.
DC Tuensang Lithrongla Tongpi Rutsa informed that the District Emergency Control Room has been activated at Circuit House and a relief camp will be set up at the earliest. She urged members to remain vigilant, responsive and ensure public safety, while highlighting the need to secure essential commodities for the district.
In a related development, Deputy Commissioner Longleng has issued a notification stating that incessant rain has caused severe damage to national highways along Longleng-Changtongya, Longleng-Tamlu, Longleng-Aboi (Mon) and Longleng-Tuensang routes, completely cutting off inter district and intra village connectivity.
In view of the situation, the DC directed dealers, distributors and intermediaries under Longleng district to ensure equitable distribution of essential commodities and prevent hoarding, black marketing, artificial scarcity or overpricing.
Daily inspections and surprise checks will be conducted by the Inspection Team, with dealers and distributors required to submit daily stock reports to the DC’s office.
The notification warned that strict action would be taken against defaulters under the Essential Commodities Act, 1955.
DC Zbto hands over emergency relief assistance: District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Zunheboto on July 22, 2026 provided an emergency relief funds to five families affected by recent landslides in different parts of Zunheboto town.
According to DIPR report, the beneficiaries included Livino Yeptho of Amiphoto Colony, Tsughato Sumi of Khuwaboto Colony, Hevukhu of Khuwaboto Colony, Ato of Khuwaboto Colony, and Bokato of Khuwaboto Colony.
The emergency relief assistance was handed over to the family members by the Deputy Commissioner and chairman of the District Disaster Management Authority, Dharam Raj, at the Deputy Commissioner’s Office Chamber, Zunheboto.
